Yoga for Peace Day - Sunday 8th August 2010

hoyadeep-red3a

On Sunday, 8th August we will be holding a series of yoga classes in support of Mark Whitwell's Yoga of Heart: Middle East Peace Project. This is a very important project, where Yoga teachers are trained and supported to teach Yoga in conflict areas around the world. My very dear friend Ernessa Bergman, who resides in Israel is deeply involved in this project and we will be donating all proceeds from this day of Yoga for Peace to support the work of this foundation. We have 2 Svastha Yoga New Zealand Teachers and 3 guest teachers presenting classes and all proceeds will be donated to the project. We hope that you can join us for a class or two to support this very worthy cause, bringing yoga to individuals  As my teacher and many other great figures say 'there can be no societal transformation without individual transformation"

Amanda Hookham will be teaching a six week module for beginners commencing Saturday 14th August. During this course, Amanda will introduce students to the principles of breath and movement as this applies to Yoga practice and the foundation postures of practice. At the end of the course, all participants will be given a simple practice to work with at home. Courses like these, where you are able to take the time to understand what it is you are doing and without feeling pressured to keep up with the rest of the class, are an ideal way to start in the practice of Yoga. This introductory course costs $90 for the six weeks. Classes will be held every Saturday morning 9.15 - 10.30am, commencing 14th August, 2010. All Yoga teachers will at some stage encounter a pregnant student in their class. While the practice of yoga during pregnancy is extremely beneficial, there are many contraindications that teachers need be aware of to ensure the health and safety of both expectant mother and her unborn child.

This 35 hour program will provide yoga teachers with the theoretical and practical training necessary to teach yoga classes specifically for pregnant women and aims to to promote the safe teaching of yoga during all stages of pregnancy and to equip teachers with the information and confidence required to develop an individual approach. The program also includes a module on successfully promoting and marketing your pregnancy yoga class.
Teaching pregnancy yoga is incredibly rewarding, this program is a must for all teachers wishing to broaden their skills and their student base.

Krishnamacharya: His Life and Teachings

krishnamachary - his life teachings 2

A.G. Mohan's latest book on his studies with the extraordinary Yoga Master, Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya has recently been released. Although largely responsible for the introduction of yoga to the west, relatively little is known about this great man. In this book, Mohan draws upon his personal experience of eighteen years study with the master and provides insight on both the man and his teachings.

This is a compelling and informative read for all teachers and students who truly want to understand the source of their tradition and practice.

Much love and congratulations to Maree Martin, a graduate of our last Teacher Training program. Maree is now holding classes in Ponsonby under the name of Haiya Yoga. Haiya is a Hebrew word meaning life; vitality - very appropriate!

We are incredibly proud to see our graduates go out in to the world and spread the knowledge and skills that they have learnt and assimilated in to their own lives. Well done Maree!

Maree will also be teaching one of the classes during our Yoga for Peace day
