Mark Whitwell's Heart of Yoga Middle East Peace Project

The Heart of Yoga Peace Project supports and trains Yoga teachers in active conflict zones around the world. It nurtures communities of healing, hope and joy in places where suffering and despair threaten to dominate everyday life.
"Even in climates of animosity, terror and warfare an alternative exists: an understanding that all are connected to each other and to source. By creating communities with common values and developing conscious awareness, false barriers are removed and individual change can occur. Yoga is hope for humanity!" Mark Whitwell

Developing a Home Practice
The benefits of regular yoga practice are vast, not only do they have a profound effect on our physical body, they also bring about transformation on an emotional and mental level.
Yoga classes provide inspiration, feedback and community but a home practice is the best way to explore your practice on a deeper level and keep it personal and in line with your own unique requirements.
A mixture of theory and practice, this workshop is designed to give you the confidence to answer the following questions and more:
- Where do I start?
- What posture comes next?
- How do I prepare to do a particular posture?
- How do I ensure that my practice is balanced?
- How do I change the practice to suit the time I have available today?
- How do I change the practice to suit the time of day, my mood, my energy level etc?
You will learn:
- The importance of sequencing (vinyasa krama)
- The fundamentals of sequencing a practice
- The importance of preparation & balancing (counter pose)
- Important types of postures to include your practice, to suit your needs
- How to adapt your practice to suit your needs at any particular time
All participants will be guided in designing their first home practice during the workshop.
The content covered will address the requirements for a general health & fitness home practice, rather than a therapeutic practice, however we will make time during the workshop to answer questions regarding specific issues.
Venue: Kelly Street Studio, 1A Kelly Street, Mt Eden, Auckland
