Teacher Training Program - FAQ's

Who can attend this program?

This program is open to anyone who wishes to deepen their understanding of yoga, particularly the principles of yoga as expounded by the great yogi, Sri T. Krishnamacharya. Whether you attend for the purpose of training to teach others, or to deepen your own practice you will find the knowledge gained in this program to be invaluable on your journey!

How do I apply?

Before submitting your registration, we feel it is important for you to attend as many studio classes as you can (at least 6) so that you get a feel for our approach. There are many different styles of yoga out there and many trainings to choose from, becoming familiar with these principles will help you to decide if the Svastha Training Program is for you.
Once you have made your decision, contact Barbara who will arrange a time to meet with you, along with another senior teacher, answer any further questions you may have about the program, discuss your goals and help you assess if this program is right for you.

Are there any prequisites for attending this program?

The only prerequisite is your commitment to the journey!

Do I have to attend every training session?

Successful graduation of this program is dependent on attending at least 80% of the scheduled training sessions.

If you have to miss a training session, you are encouraged to meet with one of your peers to discuss the missed teaching, borrow notes etc. If any further clarification is needed you may arrange a time with the Program Facilitator, outside of the training sessions, to discuss any area you may need further assistance with.

Am I a certified yoga teacher at the end of this program?

On successful graduation you will be qualified to teacher beginners levels classes, and will be awarded with a Certificate of Completion.
SYNZ is a registered training facility with the Yoga Alliance and you may choose to register at the 200 hour level with them if desired.

What is the Probationary Teachers Program?

Making the transition from student to teacher - even on completion of a teacher training program - can be very challenging and the support and encouragement from others who have already started the journey is invaluable. For this reason we offer a limited numbers of positions in this program to help you make this transition and gain confidence in your teaching. Participants in the Teacher Training program, who show an aptitude and passion for teaching will be offered a chance to apply for a position in the probationary program where you will gradually increase your exposure as a teacher and have the full support and guidance of experienced SYNZ teachers, with the aim to eventually begin teaching your own beginners' level classes at our studio in Mt Eden.

Are the program fees refundable if I decide not to complete the training?

We suggest you give very serious thought to your decision to embark on this program as the course fees are not refundable once the program has commenced. Numbers in our training program are limited and another person, who could have taken your place, may have been turned away. Prior to commencing the program paid fees are fully refundable less the $250.00 admin fee.
We do understand that life can sometimes throw curveballs, and in certain situations consideration will be given to a partial refund, this is however at the Program Director's discretion.

Congratulations to the Graduates of our Teacher Training Program - May 2010

2010 tt graduates

After years of personal practice I feel privileged to have taken part in the Svastha Yoga New Zealand study programme. I've gained considerably deeper understanding of the principles and philosophy of yoga. More importantly, my personal practice has new meaning and focus
.
Director Barbara Coley presented the programme with unending passion, instilling confidence in students with her enthusiasm for the lifelong benefits of regular practice and a desire to share that with others. Donna

If you decide to undertake the Svastha Teachers Training course, be prepared for change.  Any worthwhile course should enable shifts in paradigms and that is what the Svastha course did for me. While undertaking this course I changed  physically, mentally and spiritually and was able to take in the very core and true principles of Yoga most often forgotten about such as the impact of Pranayama (Breathwork), Chanting and the Philosophy & Psychology of Yoga along with the importance of and in conjunction with the physical aspect of practice (asana). This course is highly recommended for anyone embarking on an inner transformational change program.
Also if you get the opportunity to experience any teachings by the Mohans when they visit New Zealand again, take the journey and opportunity of the inspirational voyage of their teachings, they will impart wisdom, humour and show the true essence of what Yoga is and was meant to be all about in this day and age which will provide thought provoking mind shifts. Rachel
